Spiral is designed to recognize language associated with self-harm, suicide or danger to yourself or others. When it does, it responds by providing crisis resources and encouraging you to reach out to real help.

The resources Spiral provides

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988), the Crisis Text Line, 911 for immediate danger and your nearest emergency room.

Human review

Flagged conversations may be reviewed by a human afterward to improve safety. No one monitors conversations in real time.

The limits, honestly

Detection is not guaranteed and Spiral can make mistakes. Never rely on Spiral when you are in danger, thinking about hurting yourself or someone else or need immediate help from a person. Call or text 988, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
